Issues of Uighur and Rohingya, Fadli Called the Silent Jokowi Regime

Jurnal Update. Deputy Speaker of the House Fadli Zon said President Joko Widodo failed to speak well on the international stage on the issue of Uighur Muslims in China and the Rohingya in Myanmar. In fact, the constitutional mandate mentions the question of active free politics that should not be affected by cooperation with other countries.

He said this was related to the evaluation of Jokowi's government foreign policy through his personal Twitter account on Monday.
According to him, Indonesia is happy after being elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2019-2020. Ironically, said Fadli, Indonesia's role in international forums faded.

"Especially in the issue of human rights violations experienced by Rohingya in Myanmar and Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang, where there is no Indonesian voice at all," he said.
"Of these two issues, the attitude of Indonesia's foreign policy under Jokowi's administration, such as not representing it as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world," Fadli continued.

Based on the results of the UN investigation Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, said Fadli, currently around two million Uighurs are detained by Chinese authorities in political shelters in Xinjiang. They, he continued, were imprisoned without charge and for an indefinite period of time.

"In fact, the detention does not only lead to torture, hunger and death. But ironically, our government is silent, considering the issue of Uighur Muslims is China's domestic political affairs," he said, who is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party.

Likewise on the issue of Rohingya. Fadli claimed there were bilateral efforts from the government to ease the conflict in the case. However, he said, "the role taken by President Jokowi is still very normative".

"Even though Indonesia has a natural role as a leader in ASEAN, it should be a pioneer to push the Rohingya problem so that it is addressed collectively by ASEAN. But this is not seen," he criticized.

In fact, said Fadli, Law No. 37 of 1999 concerning Foreign Relations affirms the question of the free and active Indonesian foreign policy doctrine. Moreover, Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world.

"Even though we currently have a lot of economic cooperation with China, the attitude of the Indonesian government must not be affected by these conditions," he said.

"Because, besides Indonesia having a natural role as the largest Muslim country, maintaining world order is a constitutional mandate. And the silence of the @jokowi government on Uighur Muslim issues indicates that our government has failed to interpret Indonesia's large capital," he said.
