"Indonesia Can't Be Swayed with the China and US War" Sandiaga Uno

Nasional Indonesia. Candidate number vice president 02 Sandiaga Uno said that he had predicted that Indonesia's trade balance would experience a deficit. The trade balance in November 2018 suffered a deficit of 2.05 billion US dollars. After a deficit of 1.77 billion dollars last month.

According to Sandiaga, the trade balance deficit occurred because exports weakened and the import rate was getting higher. "I am very concerned and this has been predicted by us because the weakening of exports is accompanied by swelling imports," Sandiaga said when met at the Grand Cempaka Hotel, Central Jakarta, Monday.

Sandiaga did not dismiss the notion that the trade balance deficit was also caused by a trade war or trade war between the United States and China. Nevertheless, Sandiaga assessed that Indonesia should be able to avoid the influence of the trade war by carrying out structural reforms in the economic field.

"So we should not be swayed by the agenda of the American and Chinese trade war. We must, in essence, dance in our own drums. Don't we dance in American and Chinese drums," said Sandiaga. "We must build our strength and this is one of the good opportunities, we improve our internal economy by carrying out structural reforms," he said.

Separately, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani assessed that the trade balance deficit through 2.05 billion US dollars in November 2018 was due to external factors. "The external economic factor from the export side will be a challenge, we have to look at some of our commodities or the market to export very carefully," he said in Jakarta on Monday.

"Because for China the economic growth is in a position of adjustment because of their own internal problems or because of trade war with the US," he continued. So far, China is Indonesia's largest trading partner. The majority of Indonesia's export commodities are sent to China.

Therefore, the weakening of China's economy is considered to affect the demand for export of Indonesian products. Meanwhile, said Sri Mulyani, new markets for Indonesian product exports absorbing exports are very limited. This is due to weakening demand due to uncertain global economic conditions.
